A UN Women team has paid a courtesy call to the Marsabit County Governor’s office.
The UN Women in its work plan for 2016-2018 proposes to work in areas of democratic governance, women economic empowerment, peace and security.
The United Nations Assistance Framework under the Delivering as One (DaO) approach is committed to areas based programmes, to which Marsabit is one of the counties where the area based programming will be piloted.
Having no field presence in Marsabit, UN Women mission to Marsabit has the objective to undertake consultations with stakeholders to inform UN Women interventions for the UN area based programme in Marsabit and to validate the UN women work plan 2016-2018.
The UN Women plan was to meet mainly with the County and national government officials where discussions were based on; the CIDP, the development needs in Marsabit with focus on UN Women focal programming issues as outlined in the Marsabit work plan.
The UN Women were to meet (pre-identified) Non State Actors like private sectors, CSOs,community groups among others operating within Marsabit and Moyale.
To support/empower, the 35 Moyale peace committee members, UNDP has promised to give five motorbikes.
UNDP will also provide one ambulance and other equipments for the Marsabit County.
The UN Women team was received at the Governor’s office by the County’s Deputy Governor HE Omar Abdi Ali.
The UN Women mission to Marsabit was slated for November 13-18th, 2016.
