As it has happened in the Sub Counties of Moyale, Laisamis and North-Horr, the Marsabit County department of Tourism, Culture and Social Services (TCSS) has organized training for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within Saku sub county.
Just as the case of Moyale, Laisamis and North-Horr Sub Counties, the training is guided by the 2010 Kenyan constitution, convention on the rights of PWDs, PWDs Act of 2003,employment Act and Sexual offences Act (2006),children Act among others.
People with different kind of disabilities such as physical, sensory, intellectual, developmental, mental health and emotional disabilities have benefitted from the training.
Topics of the training include; mainstreaming disability in all national development processes, capacity building & trainings, job placement, tax exemption, awareness creation on ongoing NHIF registration and modalities of registration, disability and poverty, Foundation to economic empowerment which includes health education, employment, accessibility to available opportunities, social protection among others.
Challenges facing persons with disabilities such as limited access to opportunity, stigma, marginalization, poverty, low self esteem are discussed and ways out for their desired development.
The training for PWDs within Saku sub county was facilitated by department’s staff that included AnnaMaria Qalla Denge-Deputy director gender and social services,Joshua Leitoro, Gutu Bante, Jillo Shama and Fatuma Isaak
The training was officially opened by the department’s chief officer, Hon. Wario Bulle Sora.
