Marsabit Chamber Of commerce met with County Government Officials , responding to cries from suppliers over unpaid bills for projects completed . The Chamber had initially resorted to file a law suit , however after deliberating amongst themselves they decided to hear from the horses mouth as to why suppliers haven’t been paid to date.
They first paid a visit to the Office of Trade where they met Ms Amina Challa and aired their grievances , after which they requested she accompanies them to meet the Finance team.
Upon Meeting the Finance Boss Mr Adna Kanano and his co executive Mr Abdulahi , the Chamber was assured that the county government is committed to paying all its outstanding bills for projects successfully completed . He Also displayed a circular received from controller of budget which instructs all county governments to settle their outstanding bills.
The CEC Mr Adan Kanano further stated that they have also got instructions from the Governor Mr Muhammed Ali who has commissions a committee to verify and approve completed projects for payment beginning next week.
The Finance Team has asked the chamber of commerce to withhold its legal action and to give them a period of one month to settle the outstanding bills .
The Chairman Mr Jacob Elisha also raised concerns over increased rates on the single business permits for some sectors like fish and cereal transportation in Loyangalani and Moyale respectively . Concerns were raised over lack of adequate public participation and notification by county government.
Mr Adan promised to look into the matter and respond in a weeks time .
The chamber of commerce has agreed to give the county government the requested grace period of one month before taking legal action .
