2.What were your main childhood fears?

Grass hoppers!!They used to scare me to death! Kids in school used to torture me a lot with that.

3.What are you good at?

I Am good at mobilizing people, pushing for positive change, and most importantly pursuing my passion.

4.What are you poor at?

I am very poor at sitting back and watching things go wrong when I can do something about it.

5.Say something about your education {Alumni of which schools} and the professional courses you have undertaken.

I went to Fr. John Memorial Primary school in Marsabit, St. Marys girls’ high school Igoji, GMP Africa for my Diploma in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, Kenya Methodist University for my Bsc Microfinance.

6.Your greatest achievement in life? Then tell us more about it and how that achievement has impacted your life?

WhatsApp Image 2016-09-01 at 11.19.05 (2)So far my greatest achievement was to organize the first ever runway show in Marsabit county. Miss Tourism Marsabit county 2013. There were so many challenges and fears of how the residents will respond to it, it was so hard to convince the county government about it because it was a new thing, and so much more but at the end of the day all went well with the help of my team. It actually was more than successful!!

Seeing this project pick and become an annual event in our county has really made me proud. Every year I know a girl has the chance to step on the run way and have the opportunity to show her potential, her beauty and self-worth!! That is priceless to me.

8.The most surprising thing that ever happened to you?

The first time I saw my face on a Billboard in Nairobi!!This was like a dream come true!!! I actually  stopped and stared at my photo on the bill board for a while!!

  1. A common misconception about you?

That I am a snob. This I came to know when a few of my friends confessed of what they thought of me when we first met. I am a bit of an introvert before I get to know someone and laid back. It is a bit hard for me to start a conversation.

  1. In another life you would be……

A bird. The freedom to fly and have the best views of the world.

11.If you are a politician, you would?

Work towards fulfilling Public interest and not my own.

  1. Do you think you can have some political or leadership influence, what message are you intending to pass on to the people of Marsabit?

Yes I can if I wanted to but my passion is not politics. My message to the people of Marsabit is that you don’t have to be a politician to make a difference in our county. Do your best in whatever area you are in. Every positive thing you do contributes towards the growth and development of our county in one way or the other.

  1. What are your comments on the Politics of tribal alliances and tribal conflicts in the county?

We have more in common than our differences. Let us embrace our diversity! Let us not be divided by our tribe name! We are all created by God differently so that we can join our strengths and make a difference in this world. At the end of the day we are all human beings. Being from a certain tribe doesn’t give any one supernatural powers. Let us learn to love one another and allow peace to prevail in our beautiful county!!

  1. What charity is closest to your heart?

Women empowerment. As the saying goes if you empower a woman, you empower the whole community! My way to empower the girl child is through modeling. It takes confidence, a sense of self-worth, and  high self-esteem for a lady to walk on the run way. Once a lady develops these values then nothing will stop her from achieving her life goals.

  1. Do you have a favorite quote or one that is always on your mind?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure and as we let our own light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. Marianne Williamson.

  1. According to you, the best age to be is? Why?

Twenty One. One is full of energy and life seems very promising. It’s the age when you feel you have all the time in the world to determine your future.

  1. Your greatest regret is?

Regret is a wasted emotion. I focus on the positive in life and learn.

  1. What do you do during your free time?

I travel a lot, go for movies and spend time with family.

  1. Living person that you identify with, your role model and mentor and why?

My dad!! He is my best friend my mentor and my role model. He is an all rounded person in life. He is the wises person I have ever known! He knows exactly how to balance his work life, family life and spiritual life! He is the one I run to for advise. He understands me more than anyone else!

  1. Miss Tourism Kenya-Marsabit County edition which Joyce and her team organized in Marsabit County in 2013 was her brainchild. The best that anyone in the County Government’s Department of Tourism, Culture and Social Services would have done was to support her in the initiative. The fact that some persons from this had massive interest as event organizers on one side and event Sponsors on the other side led to a conflict of interest during the 2014 and 2015 editions. That’s how Joyce was bundled out the event that she brought to Marsabit. I have no idea why that happened but it’s my honest opinion that the same could give them an avenue to ‘eat’. I am glad that Marsabit Times has given Joyce an opportunity to set the record straight! God Bless you!
