(15/05/2018, Marsabit)Marsabit County Governor H.E Mohamud M Ali in conjunction with the Irish ambassador Dr. Vincent O’Neill have today launched young scientist Kenya(YSK) program in Moi Girls high school. Young Scientist Kenya is a science oriented innovative programme by government of kenya in collaboration with the Irish Embassy. The program supports innovation in four key areas of Biological and ecological science; social and behavioural science; Chemical and physical science; mathematics, science and technology. YSK aims at complementing the Kenya science and engineering fair, other inter schools competition in science Technology, Engineering and mathematics.
Blaze Safricom which is a network for young people supports the initiative by mobilizing and enrolling student’s across Kenya for pilot phase across ten counties.
While addressing the students,Governor Mohamud M Ali said that his government will fully support the initiative while underscoring the importance of science, technology and innovation in steering and spurring economic growth.
” Understating the importance of science and excelling in it will directly have enormous contribution on our social economic transformation , our young people will be equipped with lifetime skills that will enable them secure jobs and contribute in achieving our millennial goal as a nation ” He Said.
While reaffirming of his government’s sustainable support for this project he promised to give a special reward for individual school, student and teachers excelling in sciences across the county every year. Further he promised to reward the best school in science in national examination with Ksh 3 Million.
“I am very delighted about this program and for those of you who will excel in science, we shall have a special reward for you, your school and teacher’s ”
The Irish Ambassador said that his country has been in collaboration with various countries across East Africa in promoting problem solving oriented science innovation. He reiterated that Irish Embassy remains committed in supporting this initiative to ensure it’s success.
