Earlier today fire gutted down a furniture shop and neighbouring business stalls at the Marsabit Market.
What started the fire could not immediately be ascertained.
It started around 2pm and due to the one storey furniture shop being wooden, and housing a timber mart, the intensity of the fire was high and could not be controlled, razing the store to the ground.
Property of unknown value was destroyed in the inferno.
Marsabit County Government which invested in a fire fighting gear has not been effective in responding to fire incidences.
This brings to three such fires in Marsabit town. In the past two incidences the response of the county government has been wanting.
The previous regime even employed fire marshals. The fire fighting vehicle has stalled and is accumulating dust at the old county council office due to lack of requisite operational resources and effective management.
While the residents rushed to the site to help they could not do much. Some turned to looting the wears from the stalls. One man was arrested in the act.
