The petition presented to Milimani Law Courts to challenge Marsabit County’s gubernatorial elections will be heard at the Marsabit High Court. The case will be heard and decided by Judge Said Chitembwe. This follows the listing of all judges who will hear all petitions files following the August 8th Elections. The names have been officially gazetted.
The petition was filed by Marsabit County’s former governor Ukur Yattani. Another petition to challenge the Women’s Representative seat in the county against Safia Sheikh Adan was filed by her predecessor Miss Nasra Ibrahim Ibren. However, the dates of the case’s hearing are yet to be made public.
Earlier, Ukur Yattani expressed his confidence that the court will nullify Abshiro’s win. Through his lawyer Datty Omong’o, Ambassador Yattani presented his evidence against Governor Ali on 13th September so that the governor can also gather evidence. Datty Omong’o believes that IEBC failed the people of Marsabit by carrying out a shammed election where rigging and deception was the order of the day.
Ukur Yattani and Nasra Ibrahim believe that their evidence is enough to convince Judge Chitembwe that the election was flawed making him nullify the gubernatorial and women representative elections. The two added that the county’s returning officer Arnold Mutwiri made a mistake to announce Ali and Safi winners.
